Fabulous wealth, no shortage of anything. No poverty, no religions, no crime. „In Eldorado, all the gold that shines”
In my desing I dreamed a fictitious group of people’s festive attire. I have chosen Eldorado as an inspiration from Voltaire’s thesis novel, Candide – the iconic place of optimism.
Voltaire’s satirical novel rejected the optimism of the German philosopher, Leibniz that „this world is the best of all possible worlds”. According to the novelist, this statement is more of settling for misery rather than optimism. In the line of events, there is an outstanding role of this episode, because Candide during his vicissitudinous travelling experiences bumped into the unbelieveably perfect – and thus questionable - world of Eldorado.
With my clothes I called the mentality of Voltaire for help to give the impression of the provocation achieved by exaggeration reflecting on this radical concept of life.
In the motto of „all the gold that shines”, I applied noble materials: the barge pants and an upper part belonging to it are made of floss, and I completed this look with a brocade jacket. The ornament is made up of mirrors, feathers, gold beads, organs and sequins.
The idea that Eldorado might be the best of possible worlds is doubtful. This type of society, which the author is describing, is unlikely to exist perfectly. But the fact that the people of Eldorado do not question this; the pure carelessness is really nice in a way. In my collection I have shown this self-forgetting faith.
