After The Coup Attempt

After The Coup Attempt

It happened a coup attempt in Turkey on July 15, 2016. During the coup attempt, President Erdogan addressed people to go out to the streets and to oppose the coup. With this announcement, people went out the streets and tried to oppose the soldiers who were attempting to the coup. The crowds resisted tank fire and air bombardments and, with the help of loyalist soldiers and police forces, they defeated the coup attempt in a matter of hours. The government swiftly declared victory and scores of troops that had taken part in the coup surrendered on the Bosphorus Bridge in Istanbul. That night, 241 people were killed and 2,194 others were injured. The Turkish government blamed the failed coup attempt on Fethullah Gulen, a Turkish preacher and businessman who has lived in self-imposed exile in the United States since 1999. After the coup attempt, started watches and meetings for democracy, and the remembrances for the people who died on that day.
