Poster Illustration - Legacy of Pontianak

Pontianak is the capital city of West Kalimantan Province which has the nickname "Seribu Sungai". The existence of this nickname is because of the Kapuas river, the largest river in Indonesia. The Kapuas River consists of hundreds of large and small rivers which are used as means of transportation. West Kalimantan has a lot of uniqueness and attractiveness including also rich in cultural legacy. Starting from the diversity of tribes, traditional houses, traditional dances, regional weapons, traditional clothes and much more.

Therefore the design of this illustration poster aims to preserve Pontianak's cultural legacy
King Bibinge

West Kalimantan traditional clothing for men is called King Baba while for women King Bibinge. For the material made on the traditional attire of the male Dayak tribe comes from the skin of an ampuro plant or kapuo wood. The decorations given are also in the triangular headband of hornbill feathers. This type of clothing is always worn well when undergoing daily activities such as hunting, farming, or during traditional ceremonies.
Burung Enggang / Rangkong (Hornbill)

In West Kalimantan Hornbills are considered a symbol of peace and unity. Therefore, we can find Hornbills in almost every Dayak community room, such as statues, carvings, paintings, clothing, houses, village halls, monuments, gates, also in the tomb. For Dayaks, hornbills are also a symbol of an ideal leader. This is because Hornbills fly and land on high mountains and trees, their feathers are beautiful, and their voices are heard everywhere.
Tari Monong (Monong Dance)

Monong dance or Manang dance is known as one of the ritual beliefs of the West Kalimantan Dayak tribe which is used to request healing aimed at the treatment of diseases for one of the Dayak tribesmen.

In ancient times this Manang dance was performed specifically by shamans or elders of the Dayak tribe by reading certain mantra. In the process, this dance is accompanied by several traditional musical instruments and mantra that are offered to the God so that the sick can recover. Now, this dance is often performed at traditional events such as Bemanang or Balian, welcoming guests, and also cultural festivals.
