Pride
After reading the Penguin Classic, "Stonewall reader" edited by the New York Public Library, I thought it was only fitting to create a series dedicated to the spicy messages and chants that the LGBTQ+ community boldly presented to the world as they protested inequality and police brutality. The messages below are sourced from posters from the first pride parade (Christopher Street Liberation Day as it was called in 1970), messages from magazines or articles that quote chants being proclaimed at and around the Stonewall Inn, the birthplace of the Gay Liberation Movement 50 years ago and modern fight for LGBTQ+ rights in the United States and worldwide.
I created this series in a square format to make them easily sharable on instagram and other social media outlets in order to spread some of the original messages today, as they are still relevant on the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots.
