Love is Love - Paper Craft

The 28thof June 2019 marks the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, which was the start of the initial LGBT rights movement in 1969.
Every symbol in this playful set, features a different flag within the community and represents that people come in (quite literally) different shapes, sizes and preferences, (amongst others: ) Lesbian, Gay, Bi, Transgender, Pansexual, Asexual and straight allies.
The reasoning behind the symbols associated with each flag is based on historic references and metaphors.
The most inclusive term is LGBTQIAA+ and I acknowledge that not all identities
are represented in this image.
Plus = Lesbian, Triangle = Gay, Cylinder = Bi, Arch = Transexual,
Circle = Asexual, Wiggle = Pansexual
I wanted to create a piece that illustrates the different identities someone might subscribe to, and represent these individuals and groups, that you may not be aware of. The main aim with this piece was to create representation and to raise awareness and showing that there is more in this society than just “straight”. You are surrounded by a whole spectrum of loving people. The goal was to make this a playful visual that is easy to interpret for both children and adults alike, and make it an accessible conversation to have across generations.
If you work in a nursery/ elementary school and would like to use this image and print a poster as a teaching tool – please feel free to send me an email explaining your intended use, and I will very gladly send you a high res file.
