The scale I truly love, this was my first major work at Chackoshop, Mumbai. Forms were inspired by thalis (moulded plates) from South India, and mechanical parts. We blended elements like veins of leaves and caricature like facial features with CNC milling. Canadian pinewood and good old Indian teak were meticulously sanded then sealed with a food grade sealer.
The brass dish was given a slight depression and rounded edges to invoke a tactile, inviting response.
Amuse bouche
Literally, amuse your mouth. Little tasters sitting on top of brass dishes fit snugly in teakwood saucers, the whole set had to exude the richness that Kerala cuisine is known for.
Bread platter
Inspired by a cam, we gave an elongated form to give the chef some flexibility in laying out the assortment of breads. The brass dishes can be interchanged with white marble ones, which make the different butters pop even more.
Sandwich platter
Internal codename: Doraemon.
We took a veined leaf and just went with it.
DIY taco platter
The one closest to a thali. The ridges flow into the negative space, like an embryonic plant within a seed.
