Refracting Reality

Refracting Reality

Light has been the main part of our world since the beginning of time. We have learned to use light to tell stories, relate, experiences, and communicate with one another. This book questions our perception of the world by examining the light through different forms of expression.

This project was heavily driven by research, curation of contents, and sequential storytelling. To communicate the idea of questioning our perception of light, the design decision for the book was made with the characteristics of light: Refraction, Reflection, Diffraction, and Interferer. In addition, the prism of the book spine was used to manifest the perception of refracting reality.

In order to contextualize the contents of the book in real-life, the interactive installation was created using prisms and light sensors. Experience changes depending on where people stand and where they place their prisms. From complete darkness to a 360 degrees interaction, the play between light and shadows of prisms brings "refraction reality" to life.
