Free School is a full day of free art and design classes open to the public, and taught by young, talented designers in the field of Graphic Design. Designed as an outreach event to the community, the classes are unique and quirky, offering fresh perspectives on design that might be hard to get in a typical classroom environment.

Six recent graduates where chosen to present a one hour class to an audience that combined practitioners, students and design curious public. Personally, it was a chance to taste what teaching can be about, the preparation that it entails and the responsibility of communicating clearly and making the class a dynamic, and hopefully not boring, activity.

No Logo Branding was comprised of a lecture, case study examples and class discussion. For legal reasons, I am not including any of the case study slides in here. These where used in class as examples of the principles and philosophy discussed throughout the presentation. Download the presentation here.
NO LOGO BRANDING \ outline
With today’s changing platforms and interfaces, logos become “gizmos,” meaningless marks that communicate nothing if a brand is not developed in a flexible and holistic way. The class combines a case-study lecture, interactive discussion and concludes with a dynamic project as we challenge students to define, design and prototype a coherent branding project in a short timespan — driven by a company’s mission and audience — without the use of any logos or marks.
