Many power strips have similar designs, which means the consumer has very little choice. Also, there are many safety accidents at home, as it is difficult to organize the cables when there are many devices plugged in. A majority of power strips have horizontal design, so dust easily gets inside, causing fire accidents. The solution to this is to think differently from typical power strip design, which is the cuboid shape, and to create two types of uses, which for example can be wall mounted or put on a desk. So this new design gives the consumer a choice to use the power stripe better suited for various situations.
Problem
-
As a result from observing and researching users habits, some users of the power strip hide it in a corner in their rooms, because it's uncomfortable to go over the power strip when they put it on the floor across the room. Another problem is that the power strips need to be lifted when they clean the floor using a vacuum cleaner. If the power strip is continually put in the corner of a room, dust could get into its sockets which can cause fire and electric shock.
Design Concept
-
Unlike the typical cuboid power strips, this power strip has a doughnut-shaped design. The round shaped power strip can be put vertically, so it reduces the problems of dust getting into the sockets. It is also practical because the power strip can be rotated, so it is easier to plug devices into the socket outlet. Also the following details are designed for two types of usage, which is putting it on a desk or hanging it on a wall.
