It was a thrill helping re-imagining some of the most iconic monsters in film history. I was tasked to produce some early design explorations at Studio ADI, to find a new, original and realistic look for these beloved creatures.
King Ghidorah – Head Exploration V01
Very early head exploration. I tried to come up with a new and fresh take on how we usually picture a dragon. My main goal was to capture King Ghidorah’s extraterrestrial origin in this concept.
King Ghidorah – Head Exploration V02
A more Cobra looking design of King Ghidorah, that has a body covered with massive golden scales and rows of spines run down the neck. Some elements of this version made it into the final design.
King Ghidorah – Head Exploration V04-05
A more terrifying looking take on the golden dragon, with a mouth lined with dagger-like teeth and a forked tongue.
Turntable of my ZBrush model.
Final renders of V04 and V05 which I did in KeyShot. I overpainted and added textures in Photoshop.
Close Up.
King Ghidorah - Body
The task was to create a new, original and realistic version of King Ghidorah. To visualize its extraterrestrial origin, I experimented with a radically different look that was less earthly and much more alien. It ended up a bit too far from the original Toho design, but it was fun to explore a different take.
Rodan
Early Rodan concept design I did at the very beginning of the production.
The note I received was to lean the design closer on today's bird-family and not resemble too much of a Pterodactyl or dinosaur.
Director Michael Dougherty handed a photo of a Vulture, he really liked, that I used as reference.
Christmas Card
My annual Christmas Card from 2019.
