WARRIOR CHILDREN

WARRIOR CHILDREN represent an emocional and hardworking project that has an amazing and powerful learning process between the challenged of our selfs  and the developing VFXs shots.

.

This POST PRODUCTION project takes around eight work months since the filming and the concluding the color grading, we where around 17 workers between two directors, five 3D artist, three compositors and producers managers. Our goal was to handle a project so much big using a talent small team.

HERO SHOT 01

This shot is original footage from stock, for the first process I did a camera 3D tracking for the 3D artist they simulate the crowd and the battle, then I clean the plate using matte painting image to project over this 3D space, the clouds and thunders was made using different layers of footage and re toning to the same color space as the matte painting. Finally I create some smoke on Maya and thunder stroke to make some aerial diffusion to the final composition.

HERO SHOT 02

This shot has a complex work, original was filming on 8K using a Phantom Camera, over 600 fps, was a long shot cause were made using anamorphic lenses because the director want to reframe on a digital sequence animation.

This shot takes around three months to develop, first was a solving a 3D camera tracking, at the same time rotoscoping every element that we need to work separately, we test two different crowd simulations, the firs we place some kids running, but finally we decide that the armors goes better on adults. The energy effect for the armors, was build on motion graphics using AE, finally the smoke was made using 3D Max and the 3D camera.

The hard work was to handle so much data over every single frame, because I had 8K material, on slow motion, 3D crowd simulation compositing on background, smoke simulation compositing for midground, and energy armors on motion graphics for the foreground.

CLOUDS SHOTS

Were about 11 plates, on different complexity ways, some on different ambients and films at diferente times, we decide to create those clouds using a 3D simulation, but the real complexity was that the final offline toke around five months to be approved, that makes us decide to rebuild all the clouds using diferente footage layers to emulate a storm and piro assets were added on compositing. The time was running, we create first a matte painting clouds, and using a displacement map animated, then a static organic real footage clouds, but finally the result was much better than what we really spect, with just three week to the deadline.

HERO SHOT 03

This shot was made using a dron, and the complex of this was to make a feel that que big piro cloud was over the city, this sequence was the only 3D simulation plate, cause the rendering time for this took around a week to be finish.

The consideration for the final presentation that came from client, about the clouds starting to open whit the thunder, was resolved on post, because the 3D render simulation could toke more time than we expected.

FINAL

I'm happy for this great project, and the team that put all their effort and love to carry it out.
To Diptongo Media Group we worked for many months and had the opportunity to do all the VFX for this production, this is a campaign of the Homi Foundation and its fight against childhood cancer supported by James Rodríguez, and thanks to the opportunity of working with the Pepper Group Agency and the production of Colombo Films.
