Reykjavik Iceland Branding

Reykjavik, Iceland
This was the first full branding project that we worked on in the MFAMD program. The purpose of this project was to learn how to properly conduct research on or for a client in order to produce designs that reflect the brand, location and what the brand stands for. We dived into the world of Mind map categories consisting of Geography, Traditions, and Modern Culture. It allowed us to dive deep into a specific location and what they are about and really focus on some of those things to create branding that specifically targeted some of those things. Rough sketching 100 or more logos and throwing out any and every idea you have was also something that really sunk that will be used in my workflow for years to come. Sketching out a lot of those ideas allows us to get rid of some bad concepts and go a bit deeper with the good ones with the process of elimination. Mood boards were a big part of this project. They included all the logos for the three different categories as well as type faces, colour palettes, the logos both in black and white and colour. There was sample imagery displayed that we used as a building block for the branding. We were introduced into a dynamic and static vision boards. The static vision boards tested our skills with voice and tone, descriptive words, and a narrative. The dynamic vision board was a challenge as they are difficult to create if video editing and motion graphics is not a strong suit but, they are very useful to showcasing your abilities in a short amount of time to a client. It allows the client to witness your view and take on the project and the parts that were found to be the most important to include in the final branding pieces. The final part we worked on was website wireframes. It gave us the opportunity to think and learn about how websites are laid out, and the best method to use for the amount of content being placed on the page as well as using the elements in the other branding materials, in this case, the plane graphic was a touch to the digital design of the wireframe.

All of the work we have completed in our mastery development has led us to this moment. Each project became easier to complete as we aced these challenges and they will be used indefinitely in the future.
