The Brief
The brief asked to conceive and produce an animation to clarify and illuminate the provided voiceover from Laura Bates talk on ‘Everyday Sexism’. Laura Bates project ‘Everyday Sexism’ was set up with the aim to document and raise awareness of examples of sexism that women face on a daily basis around the world. The project showcased just how normalised sexism appears to have become in our society, that this harassment is deemed acceptable and how it makes it difficult for woman to stand up for themselves. Due to the projects popularity women are standing up against sexism in stronger numbers and saying ‘enough is enough’.

The Concept
And so, the ‘Big Idea’ for this piece revolves around personifying and expressing Laura Bates words by the use of abstract characters, scenes and colours to showcase instances of everyday sexism. It plays an important factor in highlighting that this behaviour is no longer, and never was, acceptable in our society and will empower women to make a stand.
Animation
The animation uses abstract characters, scenes and colours to showcase examples of everyday sexism. It plays an important factor in highlighting that this behaviour and attitude towards everyday sexism is no longer acceptable in our society and will empower women to make a stand for change and equality.
During research, I started taking notes and sketching initial ideas and concepts on the topic. I highlighted the words in Laura’s speech that made the most impact to me. I then developed the concepts which were most innovative and would visually elaborate and evolve the words of Laura.
The choice of an abstract colour scheme was to reflect on the absolute bizarreness of everyday sexism and its acceptability in our society in the 21st century.
