2016 Formula SAE NJUST

Hi, this is the work I did for a Formula Student team between Nov 2015 and Nov 2016. Our team is called EMOTION and all its members are uni students form Nanjing University of Science & Technology in China.

2015 NEXTEV Formula Student Electric China (FSEC)
I was in the car body group whose responsibilities include:
3D modeling in catia
doing aerodynamic experiment in ansys fluent
making a wood-foam-plaster mould and a epoxy resin-carbon fiber car body by hand
catia modeling and 3D printing a steering wheel
making a driver seat using the same method of making the car body
...
Some of my initial catia models of 2016 car
The final catia model of 2016 car body was made by Jianwei Ye and Cheng Zhang.
The aerodynamic experiments in ansys fluent were performed by Jiahui Liu.
The carbon fiber body was built by Cheng Zhang, Jiahui Liu, Xinrui Liang, Jiaolin Huang and me.
From catia model to carbon fibre car body - 9 steps
1. Create sections every 5cm in 2 orthographic dimensions of the catia model
2. Print sections on wood sheets (thickness 5mm) and assemble. Now you get a basic mould
3. Use anything cheap & readily available to roughly fill the gaps (including but not limit to styrofoam, rolled window screen and folded cardboard)
4. Mix and dump polyurethane foam agent to fill the gaps
5. Wrap the mould with plastic cloth to drainage foam agent in tricky parts
6. Sand the mould after the foam agent becomes solid
7. Plaster and sand the mould. Use clay instead if your team has sufficient funds
8. Cover with 3 layers of carbon fiber, and brush epoxy resin after each layer. Better use a vacuum pump to avoid holes between layers
9. Sand. Wear masks and gloves as powder of carbon fiber makes skin itch

I built several catia models of steering wheel and one of them became the final design
Renderings for technical documents in which we reported all the components we bought
Renderings of Brake System Components
Renderings of Power System Components
Renderings of Suspension Components
Renderings of Transmission Components

At that time I was the only student doing a design course in the team, so I designed the poster, fold-out and the pattern of team uniform for the marketing group as well.
