AIR CONDITIONER FACE PLATEs
for Vestel in 2018
Design Background
—
The task was to design face plate alternatives over an existing air conditioner base for different ODM customers and Vestel brand itself. One can think about Lego bricks and how many different pieces a single one can take on. This analogy is a summary of the brief. The existing base and face plate, the model called Flora, have been in production since 2017. The plan was to replace some of the products in the market with the base equipped with new designs by 2019-2020. Ideation

Possible form alternatives were explored over the base. It was important to create as many different coherent front face plates as possible in the given time. After evaluating the results, 4 key models were chosen by taking manufacturing limitations, existing product range and market dynamics into account.
VEGA—
Intersecting Chamfers
The characteristic of Vega is the corners where 3 chamfers intersect. It enhances the unity. Besides, the smooth transition between the face plate and base’s lower part support the dynamic look.
This model is manufactured for Electrolux Group to be sold in Egypt under Zanussi brand and for Vestel to be sold in Turkey.
LUNA—
Continious Chamfers
The Luna differs from the existing face plate with its smooth transition on both sides. Moreover, the lid connects the chamfers that are placed on the base vertically. The vertical chamfers are bended through the center.
This model is manufactured for REGAL to be sold in Turkey.
CALDERA—
Cut Chamfers
The visual grill part on the front face panel makes the panel look slimer. The chamfers on the lid support the integrated appearance. Having small rounds on the edges enables a robust character.
This model is manufactured for SEG to be sold in Turkey.
OMEGA—
Smoothed Edges
The Omega front face plate is characterized by the big rounds on the edges and the fading pattern from edge to edge. The rounds on the lid edges create the one piece look.
