Valhalla On Ice : UX Winner, Ubisoft Game Lab

Valhalla on Ice is an insane sports game that combines the basics of Pool, Hockey and American Football. The Valhalla Vikings must skate and throw (or punch) immortal Penguin spirits - the Pingus - into holes to score points while avoiding being thrown out of the arena by their competitors.
The Game was done in 10 weeks as part of Ubisoft Game Lab 2019 where we managed to win the "Best User Experience" Award.

I was the main Game Designer and also acted as the Project Manager for the last 3 weeks of the project.
Valhalla on Ice is a game that seeks above all to be :
1- emergent,
2- chaotic
3- humorous
This is done in order to create strong and unique moments.
The emergence is first done through gameplay, but also through the crowd effects that happens when the Crowd Hype fills up. Effects such as Pingu Rages (where pingus just go on a frenzy all around the ice) or as a multiple Giant Fish Attack (where the ice gets invaded by giant fishes that eats both pingus and pkayers).
We also wanted to create a connective experience between player and spectator just as in a real sporting event.

We also wanted - through the pingus - to have the spectators feel represented and in the heart of the action: the Pingus are the spectators, but are also the object that will be used to score goals. Those Pingus are named after the avatar name of each twitch accounts connected to the account of a twitch streamer.

We took the choice to make the game in network - using a Spectator Point of View Camera - and in 4 way splitscreen (for a couch coop experience).
