This project was the result of using a social network (Facebook) as a form of research. I started by asking a few simple questions to the large majority of people on my Facebook friends list. These questions were primarily about musical instruments, past experience, and feelings on that subject.

From there, I chose five responses that I felt were the strongest and most well thought out. I used their responses as inspiration to create five images that illustrate a collective musical history (or lack thereof).

Each image used imagery found through searches for images licensed through Creative Commons. Themes of repetition, order, and geometry proved to be constants throughout the series. The five people whose responses were chosen are seen linked to their musical history.

The series is a collection of personal stories interpreted and illustrated by an outside observer in a photographic form.
