Shape Sorting Baby Toy

This project is a redesign of a Fisher Price shape sorting baby toy.  I decided to focus on improving the following design drivers : Sustainability, general aesthetic, and functionality.
Generally speaking, mass produced toys are often extremely wasteful of resources and not environmentally friendly.  To reduce plastic waste, this redesign is entirely constructed out of natural woods. It is especially necessary for childhood development toys to be environmentally friendly, because these toys often have a very short lifespan of use.  In addition to these points, this product will be safe for babies and young children to teethe on, due to the fact that it is made of natural woods.

The Fisher Price toy seemed incredibly bulky for a child or parent to take on the go, or interact with.  Because of this, I slimmed down the profile of the toy, as well as added a handle for easy transportation.

Lastly, I added a curved dowel (steam-bent) with beads that follows the outside profile of the toy.  The originally toy definitely had room for more function. This addition will further help a developing child's hand eye coordination and cognitive skills, all while making the toy more engaging and fun!
