"FRANZ KAFKA was one of the first and greatest masters of dystopian literature. In his bleak world view, man is presented as helpless and ineffectual, his destiny determined by distant, obscure and essentially unfriendly agencies. In none of his works is this savage and unreasoning enslavement presented more vividly than in Metamorphosis, a novella in which Gregor Samsa, a respectable employee and dutiful son, wakes to find himself transformed into a gigantic insect. With dispassionate clarity, Kafka charts the ensuing events, during which Gregor's terrible situation evokes horror, sympathy, annoyance, grim humor and finally disregard from those around him."
This project objective was to conceive a book with a book. the overall idea was to create something that made sense with the book's content, but at the same time it had
to be legible.
"(...) a book designer has to be the loyal and tactful servant of the written word. It his job
to create a manner of presentation whose form neither overshadows nor patronizes
the content."

The cover of the book was created with a one of a kind 'zinc plaque' that was after pressed against the cover material to creat that texture .
In this "special edition" of Franz Kafka's book, I decided to divide it in two parts:
- on the left is the introduction about the author and his work
- on the right are the three chapters of the book
some spreads with the introduction about the author and his work
the font that gave more power to this book was 'Kokonor regular'. it represented the transformation, the metamorphosis that was going on throughout the whole book.
