Getting Behind a Cause: Preventing Pandemic
For this project we had to choose a cause to get behind and educate people on. I did some research on vaccination, as it’s a hot topic right now and I believe that because these diseases are no longer epidemics people believe that they do not need to prevent themselves from getting them anymore.
My concept was to do disease cards for preventable diseases, be they STIs or incalculable, but instead of making them scary or disturbing I decided I wanted to do abstractions of an aspect of the disease, be it an abstraction of the virus, a symptom of the virus, or the part of the body the virus effects.
The colors of the disease on the back and the spot color on the front is from the awareness ribbon of the disease, and I chose a san serif font for the header to make it clear to read from far away and a serif font for the information to make it feel more formal and authoritative.
The case I made to look like a microscope slide with the die cut the circle in the middle, so when different cards are put on the top of the stack it looks like you are seeing it through a microscope.
My formal concept for the art piece was to lure people in with the beauty of the designs and then when they look on the back, they have a better understanding of these diseases and why people should be preventing themselves from getting them.
