The Overcoat illustrates the feelings of rejection, inferiority, and disassociation the protagonist experiences from his peers. This is shown throughout the book with the use of manipulated images to convey his feelings of paranoia and disassociation. Ideas from essays from The Third Mind will be borrowed, reflected in the collage and fragmented images.
Inspiration
The protagonist in this story suffers from dysphoria and therefore struggles with identity and reality. I was inspired by unsettling images that evoke feelings of anxiety and discomfort from manipulated images and the juxtaposition.
Grids
I created a variety of grid structures that supported my concept, as well as experimented with different fonts, weights, and layouts.
