"Letterforms" is a series of Drop Caps designed by hand while exploring a variety of typographic styles influenced by trends, history and experimentation.
These are a few of my favorites.
This project started off as a test of my creativity. I wanted to explore as many different styles of type as I could and create each form from scratch with influences from my surroundings, trends, history, etc. But, while I knew each style may end up wildly different, I wanted the work to be viewed both individually and as a cohesive whole. With that in mind, I designed each letter as one piece of a larger image.
Each piece started with research and become an idea born of blended styles and traditional methods. Then pencil took to paper with initial sketches. After that came many, MANY iterations of rough forms on tracing paper until something resembling the image in my head was finally brought to the computer, vectorized, and fine-tuned in Illustrator.
