Wire Sculpture
Sculpture: Vogel
Medium: Wire and Aspen Branch
Dimensions: 13"H x 12"D x 22"W

This is a wire sculpture of a bird. Silver-colored wire is predominantly used for the body. The black wires accentuate the shape of the eyes, beak and wings while the copper wire on the breast of the bird makes his chest seem to puff out. The bird is perched on an aspen branch, leaning a bit to the bird’s right, with its head cocked to the left.  The branch slopes upward, with the upper end resting in a crook of the letter “V” formed of wire as part of the word, “Vogel,” where I chose to "sign" my piece with my last name, which is also the German word for bird. The “scribbling” of the wire provides a great feather-like texture.  And the wire wrapping of the claws add to the very bird-like features of this sculpture. This is one of my favorite 3D pieces by far.
