Typographic Calendars

Typography 2 | Fall 2012
These typographic posters were created using only SCAD 2012-2013 Academic Calendar information in an exercise of type as image. I visualized Nancy Skolos's idea of seeing type as image with techniques of Separation, Fusion, Fragmentation, and Inversion with these set of posters.

I own the photography in all of the SCAD posters. I do not own the rights to the inspirational images.
Final poster for Separation.

ABOVE IMAGES ARE INSPIRATION ONLY
The idea of Separation discusses using typography as a separate entity from the image. This does not mean that they should not complement each other in the composition, but merely reflect one another individually.

Final Poster for Fusion.

ABOVE IMAGES ARE INSPIRATION ONLY
The idea of Fusion in design can be seen as fusing the image with the typography. This idea could lead to total distortion of the typography, hindering legibility, but not in all cases.

Final poster for Fragmentation.
ABOVE IMAGES ARE INSPIRATION ONLY
Fragmentation in design is best described as disecting the type with the image. The struggle in creating a composition with this is balancing the fragmented/disjointed aesthetic into a an appeasing result.

Final poster for Inversion.

ABOVE IMAGES ARE INSPIRATION ONLY
The idea behind Inversion in design is to display the type as if it were a part of the original image. This could mean that the type is physically photographed and/or create frames for the existing image making the composition. The end result is manifested through the hyperreal.
