The "....Static" video series are composed of the core elements of digital media: sound signal and visual data signal in relationship with each other over time. Semantic content is limited to one snippet of sampled audio, to highlight the difference between 'recognizable' content delivered via words and the core materials provided in digital media - streams of numbers translated to pixellated data and audio signal.

Codec - the wrapper of instructions by which digital video is played back across a variety of platforms - isn't overtly manipulated in these works. We can get the 'codec' thing only  when these videos are re-presented across platforms. I get to see that regularly, when I upload [ i.e. provide a high-resolution copy of a source video file to ] instagram, twitter, facebook, vimeo. I see how the variety of compression algorhythms rewrite the work.

I look forward to exhibiting this work in a gallery setting, allowing comparative analysis of the visual consequences of the 'rules' by which this media is packaged and repackaged and shown back to us.
