Design Background

The brief was about designing an exterior for the Vestel’s latest developed combi fridge which has several new features, such as voice control for the upper door and ultrapuretech for spreading negative ions to prevent the interior from the unpleasant smell. The appearance must reflect the technology and innovation embedded into the fridge. And a high-end look must be achieved.
Inspiration

In order to break the conventional look, I decided to discover how I can apply the use of light to the exterior. To do so, I made some researches on what kind of ways the light is used in other domains, such as furniture, interior, automotive, electronics. The definition and categorization of those uses were made. Light can be hidden, spread through sections, be layered, be blocked, refract, seem homogeneous.
Ideation
—
It was important to generate ideas from the findings. They helped me to create various alternatives with different dynamics. Not only the use of light but also how to show the product as a high-end good were considered. In the end, the idea which met the criteria of aesthetic value and ease of production were selected.
Final Product
—
The new generation 653 refrigerator is eye-catching with its sophisticated and neat design approach. The harmony between vertically brushed dark inox exterior, the integrated LED lighting and gently formed chrome addon on the handle cap completes luxurious and high tech appearance.
