Bouldering: Before & After

Bouldering: During & After
Artist's Statement
I've been climbing for 8 years, but last summer I was injured, so I was on this trip to spend time with my friends. I also used this as an excuse to hide behind my camera. With this series, I am aiming to show what it's like to be a climber: great concentration faces, chalk-covered clothes, and roughed up chalky hands.
Process
I shoot with a Canon t5i Rebel. Photo one was me documenting my friend attempting this boulder problem. The second and third photos were taken at the end of the day. I purposely left out my friend's face in those photos because I wanted to draw the viewer’s attention to the hands and clothes. At home, I used Camera RAW and Adobe Photoshop to switch these photos to black and white, as well as boost the contrast, giving more focus to my friend. When I edit photos, I try to keep them realistic or obviously photoshop to avoid false reality.
