How does Restore.Media work?

Apart actual video and audio streams, every video file contains metadata. Metadata includes important details needed for media players to play back the video. For example, it includes details about codecs.

When recording a video, most cameras keep metadata in their internal memory. When you stop shooting, cameras save the metadata in the end of the video file. However, there may be cases when the recording hasn’t been stopped correctly. For example, your camera’s battery may run low on power. Or, you may drop your camera accidently. If this happens, your camera may fail to save the metadata in the video file. As a result, you end up with a damaged video file that can’t be played in a media player.

Restore.Media allows you to repair such corrupted video files by adding missing metadata to your broken footage. All you need to do is to upload the damaged file and a reference video shot with the same camera and settings as the corrupted one. Restore.Media will extract needed data from the reference file and save it into the corrupted video.
