Overview

Senna aims to explore the next future of footwear, an integrated, fully customizable, and disruptive manufacturing and business model. Footwear, as a derivative of human foot, should be a product between organic and semi-organic. Through digital design, tpu or other printable biodegradable materials can be used to produce a complex with both mechanical properties and organic bonding ability, ranging from footwear to clothing. 

The foot model was obtained by collecting the foot sample data.Different from the existing cutting-edge footwear manufacturing enterprises that use printing technology to manufacture uppers and midsoles, senna blurred the boundary between midsole, outsole and upper, and emphasized the concept of organic skin and bone.

The project involves the engineering of digital design, the design and manufacture of these skin-like structures as they grow, without the need for assembly as in the traditional shoe industry.



The projects involved bionics, engineering and futurology.Beginning with haeckel in the 19th century, microscopic biological structures show us the structural aesthetics of organisms iterating on themselves to adapt to their environment.From the beginning of the draft, organic structure throughout the whole project context.


Through the epidermis, we get the stratified change of hardness.After the disassembly and recombination and fusion of the existing shoe structure, we obtained four possible fusion simplified structures, and achieved the purpose of simplified surface segmentation by fusion interface, midsole and outsole or expanding the scope of a certain structure.At the same time, the purpose of this simplification is to control the material composition under three items and to facilitate the repeated cycle manufacturing of materials as much as possible.


In the part supporting the foot bottom, a variety of different structures were tested, ranging from orderly arrangement to organic generation, so as to get the most close to the expected "organic" concept, and also to test the possibility of the future shoe industry's organic and biotechnology.
As part of the traditional upper, we get the data directly from the foot to achieve the perfect, unique upper.




We finally get senna. After mixed finite element analysis, parametric design, spore modeling, additive manufacturing and digital manufacturing, different forms and capacities are obtained in different parts.
