In my Graphic Design class I was given the assignment to research a typeface and develop a graphic poster using elements of typography that highlighted what made that typeface unique. My typeface I chose to research was Century Gothic. Above are my first round sketches of the design. I experimented with multiple different letters including Z,G, and Q. I tried multiple designs for each letter and concluded that the lowercase g was the unique letter that popped out at me as unique for Century Gothic.
After I settled on using the letter g as my main design element i again experimented in different designs that put the spotlight on that letter. I also tried using the uppercase G in my designs but it was too similar to other typefaces to accomplish my goal of highlighting what makes Century Gothic unique. As well as a visually pleasing poster it is also informative. I showcased every letter and symbol in the typeface as well as a paragraph describing who designed Century Gothic, when it was created, and how it is used today.
Above is the finished poster framed and mounted on the wall. I decided to take a slanted approach to the entire design starting in the upper left hand corner of the page and descending into the bottom right beginning with a logo I designed using the lowercase letters of c and g. The logos are arranged into a row and slowly fade into all the letters and disappear into the background as they descend. This effect draws attention to the bright and bold letters of the typeface in all white and the informative paragraph below them.
This is my final poster exported from Illustrator to make it easier to tell what it looked like because the glare on the frame might make it a little tough.
