Body Perceptions | Chalkboard Experiment

The following experiment – of awareness in the present and considerations for the future, had its focus around body parts.

Meant to maintain the fluidity of human instances and use the body as foundation rather than a standardised organism, its aim was to localise and visualise the similarities and differences of choice and perception, using the body outline as foundation.

Creating the blackboard:

Time for participants to come into play!

They were asked to connect the body parts with a corresponding pre-established category, on real-life scale silhouettes drawn on a blackboard wall.

The chalkboard drawing experiment was also extended with a request to the participants to write down the first object that came to their minds when thinking about their future self. Would there be objects strictly related to body parts or more intricately entangled within social connections, and ‘feelings’ around the future? It turned out to be the later, as every object chosen, even if some may seem bodily related (i.e. pillow, chair), I have found from discussing with the participants, were actually related to either fears or wants for their future-self (the chair choice, for example, was made by a participant that had selected she ‘considers a lot’ the head area, and the object choice was triggered by a fear that she might ‘forget’ to walk in the future, based on certain family experiences).

A special and huge thank you goes to the participant in this project!

And thank you for stopping by!:)
