Tales of Zaria is an iPad game designed for 8 to 10-year-old kids who either have no interest in reading or struggle with it. This application uses standard platforming and turn-based battle system mechanics to increase reading comprehension and vocabulary skills to meet higher reading level standards. A teaser trailer on the app store will catch the attention of children looking for a game that is filled with excitement and adventure.

The secondary target audience—parents—would use the application to sit down with their child and help them read during the intermission phases of the application. This allows bonding between the parent and child, while also allowing the parent to track their child’s reading level. A promotional trailer will target parents demonstrating the application’s features and its usefulness in increasing reading comprehension for kids. In addition to the app, parents can purchase the companion booklet that provides kids the creative freedom to fill in their own story and visuals.

Reading is essential to a child’s future success, making Tales of Zaria a unique and interactive learning tool for students. According to the National Assessment of Education Progress, 32% of fourth graders are not reading at the basic level. Tales of Zaria aims to close this gap by implementing modern technology to create a fun interactive experience that broadens the depth of vocabulary and reading. With adventurous and exciting type paired with mysterious colors and friendly puppet-like graphics, Tales of Zaria makes reading fun while also enjoying a passion for gaming.
