Before I left Pakistan for grad school I was commissioned for a few projects that I was scrambling to finish in between packing and getting everything ready for moving. One of them was a collaboration with Haraka for a set of athleisure wear.
I was asked to do a shikargah - a hunting scene- for these tights (something my mother was so happy about because shikargahs are among her favourite motifs). It was especially fun researching older designs on carpets and tapestries and seeing how I could translate it into something that would be fun and trendy to wear for someone working out. The solution? Throw in a ton of colour and make up my own wonky animals for the design. Traditionally shikargahs have never focused on making the animals (and sometimes even the people) look realistic so I took it to its logical conclusion, complete with blue horses. My favourite part? There's a strange pig-like creature with just the most "well this is my life now" expression hidden in the design and I love that guy to bits.
