Texting and driving PSA Posters

Texting and Driving PSA Campaign Posters
This is a project in which I created three posters to help bring awareness to the dangers of texting and driving. This was an assignment for school. There were some requirements for this project that I had to follow. The first being is the topic that I chose has to be a relevant social topic or issue. The format for the finished posters had to me 18 x 24. There also had to be three posters that make up a series. We also had to come up with the slogan for our campaign.

Because texting and driving is a serious problem that can lead to death, I decided that I would try and show that in some way. The first poster is of some feet that have a toe tag cell phone. The second poster is of a hand coming out of a coffin holding a cell phone. The third poster is a grave with the cell phone in it. These three posters form a sequence from just died and in the morgue, to being in a coffin a few days later, then onto the grave.

Early on for this project, I drew a number of sketches to start and get some ideas on what I was going to do. There were a lot of sketches drawn to come up with ideas. From that, I did a revised set of sketches to help and refine my ideas a little better. Below are these sketches.

Revised sketches inspired by the first set I did.

From there, it was onto working on the digital sketches. The first set below is the very first set of digital sketches that I did. I was still not really sure where I was going with this project yet and though that I would have some time to go and hunt for some photographs that I could take for the road and background. Due to time constraints, I had to change my thinking and moved away from photography as I was not even sure if I could find some images online that I could legally use, and I did not want to take a chance.  The second set is where I started to move in this direction.

Second set of comps about half way through the project

While the second set was still a long way from the finished version, it gave me a solid direction to finish. For the final, I worked on redoing the sketches that I had to give them more style as many of the elements were looking like clip art, especially in the feet and hand. I broke the elements into shapes and changed the color to have overtones of a death by an accident. I also redrew the grave to make it look more realistic, with the view at an angle instead of straight down with the headstone on the side.
