Soundswood (sounds good) is an acustic amplifier designed for iPhone 4, 4S and 5. This product was developed to work as a charging dock and an amplifier for the iPhone's native speaker .
The main porpuse of the project is to offer a long lasting amplifier for everyone to enjoy their tunes without the limitations of having a source of electrical power. In addition we came up with a product that is sustainable and hand crafted locally, made out of holm oak needs no maintaince at all. It's designed to work as a charging dock too with the original Apple cables.
One of the features of using oak wood is that it increases 18 decibels so you can take your music anywhere and your battery will not be drained out like it would happen with other portable speakers. Measuring only 4 X 4 X 1 1/2 inches its size allows you to carry it in any backpack or purse without sacrificing space or carrying too much weight.
One of the main porpuses was to offer a new material that was not been used for this application before, in our research we decided to experiment with an old material that could offer us the option to upcycle it and the result was the remains of shattered skateboards and this material gave the project a new look and concept.
When we came up whit this project we wanted to involve local graphic artists because we are very lucky to have all that talent and we wanted it to be imprinted on the amplifier. So we invited 10 artists to create a unique piece of art on an object that is already functional, and then they created lasser-engraved versions of their work so you can choose any of the 10 featured designs options to be lasser-engraved on the top of yours. So it will not only sounds good, but it will look awesome too.
This is the result of the local artists talent that collaborated in this project::
