ISTD 2013 food for thought Brief
This projects focus on eating disorders but more specifically the disorder called Pica which causes people to have cravings and urges to eat non food items. This disorder led me to question what we actually consider to be food and what we do not. The focus of this project was a man called Michel Lotito who made a career from this disorder which compelled him to eat metal objects. He was chosen as the main focus due to the fact that his cravings were one of the most odd; not only because of what he ate but because most of what he consumed could have easily killed him
To represent Mr Lotito and his disorder fully, I created a series of posters as part of a dinner set (starter, main, desert, drink and cutlery).
The posters are completed in a playbill-style to show the nature of Mr Lotito’s life due to his compulsion. I felt this was the best style to portray him and his compulsion, as it led to his career as a stage performer, not unlike that of the circus freak show circuit.
