Poppy 150x300(cm) Oil on canvas 2020

This work has been painted for three years, starting with the first brush strokes in 2018.
I decided to try a new style of work away from the existing work, and I completed this work with a lot of concerns and attempts.
At first, I was not familiar with free and anomalous brush strokes, so I worked in an uncomfortable feeling.
Color disharmony and sloppy brush strokes were revealing my condition as it was.
I drew several other works to fill in the shortcomings, and I started drawing the work again after I got used to the technique.
Unlike in the beginning, it was drawn so naturally this time.
However, I felt that the skills I got used to were reducing the charm of the work.
So only after a long break did I get a sense of the appropriate brush strokes and colors to complete this work.
Even now, if you look closely, there are several techniques in this painting that are painted at different times and feel quite different.
The unfamiliar first technique, the relentless brush strokes, and the finishing brush strokes drawn by putting down the pressure.
Fortunately, all of these naturally blend together to form a beautiful poppy flower garden.

Float a river 23.9x79.8(cm) Oil on canvas 2021

The first 'Float a something' work started from the window in my hometown house. That window allowed me to observe nature and my inner self for decades. However, the window was left in the corner of the warehouse after the house was demolished. Every time I saw the window, I felt sorry for it. So I wanted to give a beautiful thing to the window. After the first work, I continue to present beauty to the windows of forgotten houses.

When I see the sunset on the water, I feel somewhat sentimental. The sunset evokes a strange sense of stability mixed with vague dreams, nostalgia for a certain day, and sadness.

Pond 65x125(cm) Crayon on paper 2021

The shadows of the lush trees
The blue sky shining through trees
They reflected on the surface of a heavy pond whose depth was unknown
The fishy smell like a small fish mixed with mud
The strong smell of grass being crushed by the steps
They surrounded me who was deeply troubled
It reminded me of my dark past that never existed
So the lotus leaves floating on it looked so fresh.

Float a river 29.7x42(cm) Color pencil on hanji 2020

Looking at the river is an overwhelming experience. I don't even know how much time has passed. The shrapnel of light reflecting on the river is like a star.

Float a moon 29.7x21.0(cm) Oil on panel 2020

The moon is beautiful and mysterious.

This work expressed its focus on the Moon's texture and light.

This artwork has different feelings depending on the lighting.

Under soft lighting, calm colors harmonize.

Under strong lighting, the shadows created by the matiere show rich color changes.

And the specially designed frame for putting the mini-flowerpot is the element that makes the work more unique.

Borrowed scenery Oil on panel 102x48.5(cm) 2020

This artwork is a landscape of Hahoe Village.
(Hahoe Village is a Korean folk village listed on UNESCO-designated world heritage sites.)
The concept is that what is important in Korean architecture is the 'Cha Kyung'.
'Cha Kyung' means borrowing the scenery of nature.
The scenery we see through the window has a great effect on human emotions.
Koreans in the old days saw the window as a frame that could contain the scenery, rather than just a window.
They enjoyed the natural scenery that changed countless times through the frame.
This artwork is based on the aforementioned concept.
Also noteworthy is the frame. The frame is the door of a traditional Korean house.
It can be said to be a work that presents diverse perspectives on the landscape, architecture, and the relationship between artworks and frames.
