Sign of the times: Something judged to indicate the nature of a particular period, typically something undesirable.
Brief
The project was about finding or creating a method to create typography with unusual means. We also had the limitation of 5 words at most.
Insight
As we had absolut free hands to try pretty much anything, so my mind went to melting candles, playing with shadows/morning light etc, to form a typographic poster.
Solution
I ended up cutting newspapers into strips, mimicking as if they had gone though a paper shredder. I also ended up decided on the text 'Sign of the times', thinking it would be rather fitting as we are reading less and less newspapers these days, a sign of the times.
Typography poster made by cutting magazines into thin strips then folding and tearing the strips trying to form the letters that were needed, without any referens. The material was really sensitive to any kind of motion, if (and when) I accidentally bumped the table everything would change which also means that every letter is unique (with the exception that I have repeated recurring letters.)
