FATALLY FEMME - Lookbook

LOOKBOOK
FATALLY FEMME

In this project I explore what it means to be fated as a woman. We are subjected to abuse by patriarchal control. This is a personal journey of recounting my experiences and confronting the anxiety and pain that comes with being a woman. I use symbolic meaning to illustrate these experiences in conjunction to the female body.  It is the female body that is controlled and abused, therefore I reflect on my own body and how others have treated it.

I used the process of monoprinting by creating my images with a palette knife. To find this process I had to find what I fear most and confront it. The palette knife allowed me very little control, and so I was able to create the feeling of both beauty and discomfort. Just as being a woman is amazing, it is also harrowing.

I chose to create handprinted garments using the same monoprinting technique to signify how too many women have shared these same experiences. As women we are branded, and we wear that around with us. I collaborated with a team of young women to pull this part of the project together, each of them being able to contribute a bit of themselves and their own experiences into the final work.

This work shows a process of reflection and confrontation, all while making it bare for others to relate to. I want my illustration to voice my experiences, and serve as a platform for others to do the same.

This is a lookbook of all the handprinted garments.
