CONFEDERATE MOTORS

PROJECT BRIEF:
Time: 6 Weeks | Work Force: 2 Designers
Role: Research, Ideation, Fabrication, Graphics, Project Management
GOAL:
Create a cohesive product family consisting of a small, medium, and large product for a luxury brand.
COMPANY:
Confederate Motors Inc.
The confederate design language was carefully researched so that it would inspire and inform our own design language going forward.
PRODUCT INSPIRATION:
Based on our brand research we decided to design a watch (small), helmet (medium), and backpack (large) for our product family. We felt that these products made since given Confederate's design language, branding, and clientel.
• Human factors for the backpack and helmet were also carefully observed.
IDEATION SKETCHES:
Based on Confederate's design language and the research done, we began to further develop Confederate's brand identity into our own original product family.
• A small sample of the hundreds of sketches that were done for the entire product family.
PRODUCT FAMILY:
After many rounds of sketching and reflection on what had been done we then grouped sketches together to create the final renderings for the product family.
FABRICATION PROCESS:
After soldifying the look of our 3 products we then gathered material and began the process of building the models. The models were formed out of high density prototyping foam, aluminum, fiber glass, carbon fiber, nylon, and leather.
• Fabrication of the helmet based off of the shell of an old half helmet.
• Fabrication of the watch based around a pre-exsisting watch movement taken from a skeleton watch.
• Fabrication of the backpack with sewing help on the soft goods portion.
FINAL MODELS:
A fully functioning watch, helmet, and hard-shell backpack
