Taxco mini jewelry collection
This small collection was mostly inspired by my mother and the environment around me (colors, textures, sounds, and feelings), while I was in Taxco taking a jewelry course. My mom is one of the most important persons in my life and the one who always encouraged me to follow my dreams. To study under the best Mexican jewelers and artisans; and to learn their techniques used to be a dream of mine. Designing and handcrafting jewelry is now one of my passions.
Taxco is well known as a "Pueblo Mágico", a term which literally translates to "Magical Town" and is used to describe, rather appropriately, places in Mexico where you can feel the magic in the air. This very magical place used to harbor a large silver mining industry and is the home of some of Mexico's best silver artisans. In honor of this historic place and the people in it, the only metal used for this collection was locally sourced .925 sterling silver.
I incorporated a variety of natural stones as a representation of the earth and the variety of colors in Taxco's natural landscape. While I was designing, my mom was always on my mind for every little detail, as if she was the one who would wear these pieces. That is why the first ring represents the union between us (onix and malachite representing my mom and me respectively) and how we complete each other.
The earrings say "women" in Japanese kanji. With this, I wanted to make a tribute to women everywhere and to how important we are in the world. I decided to write it in Japanese because the kanji writing is fascinating to me in just how many shapes and forms connect to form a single, unifying, symbol. This also a carries with it a personal dream that I hope to one day accomplish. The last ring is a mix of expressions on how I was feeling in Taxco, missing home but enjoying every second of my life there; learning from everyone and everything.
