Violin Making, as it was and is

For this project was to create a broadsheet poster about Violin Making. I went to two Violin makers around Essex to gain information about how it is done. The inspiration for this poster was taken from the swiss typographic posters.
I decided to construct a David Hockney inspired cubism photo collage of a violin. The reason being is the way the violin is played, it isn't smooth but almost disjointed which is resembled within the collage.
Before producing the poster and the collage, I did my own engraving with gauges to see how hard it was. It seemed to harder than it looked, the print below you can see how the wood slowly fell apart and lost part of the types. The effect from the wood grain seemed to work really well as a textured print.
