Visual Research Sketchbook

At this stage, another Salford Graphic student and I are currently working on producing a sketchbook which documents a series of meetings to an art studio producing work for Conversation series. Conversations Series II is a collaborative visual arts residency led by @venturearts_in partnership with @castlefieldgall and @whitworthart. Our sketchbook is entirely our experience of these meetings, and little elements have been decided to relate to what we have seen. For example, the way the book is bound are inspired by Judith Scott. The front cover is decorated with our running title Artist Inside, which reflects the artists who are considered outsiders and labelled, because of the use of tracing paper people can view the work from the outside looking in. I think it is essential going forward is about me with no knowledge on outsider artists, I now believe it is wrong to talk this way and the book is about changing peoples ideas on what art is instead looking at art is to make you feel and be inspired, I think all art does this no matter who created it.
During the creation of our logo we thought that the logo could be extended for an more extended identity, the pull down reveals space which could be used inside the book also.
One of our aims as a group project was for the ink (printed one Risograph machine) to come off so you then become an outsider artist and you are influenced by the work.
To see the excitement on the their social media, we presented our ideas with the most confidence to seem like we knew what we were doing this seemed to work. Probably one of the projects best moments was standing in front of the client, a great experiance.
Above is a sketch I created that illustrates the studio where the meetings took place, part of the sketchbooks idea is also for both me and Jess to show our experience.
