Este proyecto estudiantil tenía una propuesta de diseñar un juego de piezas de ajedrez minimalistas y con solo una herramienta – una sierra de banda. A pesar de la restricción las piezas habían de ser muy diferentes entre sí y también tener unas características reconocibles de las piezas de ajedrez.
This student project had a goal to design a minimalist set of chess pieces using only one tool – a bandsaw. Also the pieces should be very different between themselves and certainly have the characteristics of the corresponding classical chess pieces.
Como material para este proyecto se ha elegido barra de aluminio. Para crear un contraste entre los dos equipos escogí madera como segundo material. La madera clara (pino) tiene más o menos el mismo tono que el aluminio, lo que permite crear un contraste suficiente manteniendo a la vez la unión visual de las piezas.
An aluminum rod is a selected material for the project. I've chosen a relatively light colored wood (pine) to make a contrast between the two teams. Its tone is similar to that of the aluminum rod so the contrast between two teams isn't too strong and the set has its visual coherence.
La forma y las dimensiones de las piezas facilitan su recogida de la tabla para que el proceso de juego sea fluido y cómodo.
The shape and dimensions of the pieces make lifting them easy providing a fluid and comfortable play.
