Peterloo Massacre Exhibition - Look Carefully
The brief set by Peoples History Museum was to create an exciting and interactive exhibition for The Peterloo Massacre, that uses the space in the best possible way, I was very keen to make visitors look up and admire the architecture as it also reflects Manchester's history. Both my physical hanging frame and the branding itself attempts to make the most out of the incredible interior. To create consistency, I used stencil typeface and bold hand-drawn patterns to illustrate the horrific massacre of the environment. The visitors inspired every decision I made to understand how they would use the space, for example, the hanging frame had to be made of a lighter material to prevent any injuries and also at the right height.  Look Carefully derives from the artists work placed on the walls, even the imagining the terrible scenes of the massacre and to observe things more closely than you would typically.
A crucial sketch needed to imagine the workings of my concept.
Initial ideas for names and using the frame more as a marketing tool for the event.
Wood we decided was too heavy and potentially risked falling onto people below.
Foam-board was used, it does lack the nice appearance of wood but white allows layers to be built up.
thanks for looking carefully.
