Illustration: Methods and Media final project

 

For this project I had to pick an artist, take photo reference replicating their work, and then working from the reference we shot while imitating the artist's style to a degree.

I chose Bryan Lee O'Malley for my project and worked from panels of his Scott Pilgrim graphic novel series(panels from Scott Pilgrim's Finest Hour, Scott Pilgrim vs The World, and Scott Pilgrim vs The Universe). I shot all the reference in my dorm building and used myself and friends for models. I took whatever position Scott Pilgrim had in each panel and gave my friends the places of Stephen Stills, Wallace Wells and Ramona Flowers respectively. The comics was originally printed in black and white which is what I was referencing so when it came to color I felt I could take more liberties than if I were referencing something that had been in color and focused more on the reference for color choices. I was required to work on 24x26 cardboard for this assignment which I found to be extremely frustrating. This helped me pick the title for the project since I wasn't sure which of the six Scott Pilgrim book titles to use.
