Industry Champions
Client: Southend-on-Sea Borough Council
Industry Champions is a scheme to encourage employers and employees at all levels and trades to engage with young people to share advice, experience and promote their industry.
Discussing the requirements with the customer, we knew we wanted to push the 'industry' theme and decided a cog/gear would be a suitable symbol to use for the logo. A few designs were created with different cog and typeface options and an eventual design settled on. As this is a Council initiative, it was thought prudent to implement the Council's primary typeface, so that the brand sits well alongside the Council's brand.
I decided that a simple 'flat' version as well as a more polished version would be useful - giving the flexibilty required for attractive print and web documents, as well as simple 2 colour print if required at a later date.
The customer also expressed her desire at this stage to flesh this out into awarded categories, much like the Investors In People scheme. So we now have an over-arching logo, along with basic, bronze, silver and gold award logos.
Lastly, a design style was developed that utilises the cog theme whilst still adhering to the Council's brand guidelines that is flexible enough to use over a range of materials.
