Web Design and Development
My web design and development are projects that I have, for the most part, taken on outside of Nielsen.  I enjoy mocking up websites and e-mail designs.  I am very good at hand coding XHTML, CSS and e-mail HTML.  I also enjoy tutoring XHTML and CSS.

www.georgekubovic.com
George Kubovic came to me as a new real estate agent who needed to take his templated website and add some of his flair.
www.skyviewelectronics.com
My work with Rod and Skyview originally started as tutoring to help him get through his XHTML/CSS night school courses.  It has developed into a great friendship.  We meet weekly to work on developing his site to match his business, clientele and his personality.  We've been employing SEO tactics to develop better ranking and start competing with larger businesses in his area. This website started out with very few visitors per month.  We've now brought his web traffic up to over 1,000 average unique hits per month and he is fielding many sales directly from his site.  We're now starting to set more goals to get his web traffic up over 2,000 a month and to start moving his business towards a web only based company, instead of brick and mortar.
www.locatorindustries.com
Locator Industries came to me as a recommendation to build a website from scratch.  They had no web presence and they wanted to be able to direct their customers to 3 different facets of their business.  They also wanted those 3 facets to be totally unique looking as each customer was uniquely different.  They needed their customers to be able to see their offerings and be able to download any catalogs that may help in their decisions.
On this page specifically they needed to look like their business was more technically advanced then their competition.  I took the time to research other companies sites and size up the competition.  They requested that certain things on this site should be static while other sections scroll.  The top banner, background, left hand rivet, and right hand sidebar are static, while the main body and text scroll up underneath the locator industries header.
I want to point out that this site was ALL HAND CODED and at no time were templates used.
Mock Design for Digital Hollywood
This design came from a challenge I was given by a manager to take this ugly Digital Hollywood website, and mock up something that would better represent them in the the world of film.  So I developed the site with a more contemporary design.  The top with a new logo and subtle light treatment to highlight a dynamic statement that could be developed.  On the right side of the header would be links to their events.  This could be static or revolving.  I developed a more simple navigation structure to help with flow and below to highlight their sponsors in a prominent placement I placed a revolving logo bar right below their navigation.  I simplified their Upcoming events section, which could be automatically updated and created a section to the right to give visitors more information on who Digital Hollywood is.
Please note, this was a mock up only, and never went to HTML production.  It was developed in Illustrator only.
Mock Design for site voted Worst Website on the Web
As a challenge, I decided to take the site that was voted worst on the web and and re-vamp it.  So I took this site, and designed it as if it would be placed into a simple Wordpress template that would hopefully be easy for the owner to use and update.  I gave them a more contemporary design, with an engaging logo and graphics and simplified their navigation and overall message for on the front page.
Please note, this was a mock up only, and never went to HTML production.  It was developed in Illustrator only.
