[OUT]TOPIAS Visual Identity

The Benaki Museum in collaboration with Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design & Space and deviant GaZe, present OUT TOPIAS Performance & Public / Outdoor Space at the Benaki’s Pireos St. The exhibition questions how outdoor public spaces are being used as sets and scenes for performing arts, events and other activities, in a unique exhibition of videos, interactive installations, audio walks and more.

The creative use of outdoor public space has formed part of Greece’s cultural tradition since antiquity, but one that has recently been adopted internationally with ever increasing possibilities. A large number of individuals, groups and educational institutes are taking part in the exhibit along with workshops and other parallel events.

OUT TOPIAS is a play on the word utopia (based on Greek ou ‘not’ + topos ‘place’) and is the idea of a perfect society in which everyone works well with each other and is happy.

Το Μουσείο Μπενάκη παρουσιάζει στο Κτήριο της Οδού Πειραιώς την έκθεση με τίτλο: OUT TOPIAS, Περφόρμανς και υπαίθριος / δημόσιος χώρος. Ο πυρήνας της έκθεσης αποτελείται από βίντεο τα οποία έχουν υλοποιηθεί στην Ελλάδα τα τελευταία χρόνια και επιχειρούν μια παραστασιακή προσέγγιση του υπαίθριου, δημόσιου χώρου.

Η έξοδος στον υπαίθριο χώρο σχετίζεται με την επαναδιαπράγματευση του δημόσιου χώρου ως του κατ’ εξοχήν συλλογικού χώρου και συνοδεύεται από αυξημένο ενδιαφέρον για τα ιδιαίτερα φυσικά χαρακτηριστικά του περιβάλλοντος, καθώς αυτά συμβάλλουν οργανικά στη διαμόρφωση του παραστασιακού γεγονότος.

Η έκθεση αναδεικνύει ένα δυναμικό πεδίο της σύγχρονης, ελληνικής, πολιτιστικής παραγωγής με βαθιές ρίζες στην παραστασιακή παράδοση του υπαίθριου χώρου, η οποία, ταυτοχρόνως, βρίσκεται στον πυρήνα των αναζητήσεων του παραστασιακού χώρου που βρίσκονται σε εξέλιξη παγκοσμίως τα τελευταία χρόνια.

Στην έκθεση παρουσιάζονται projects που πήραν μέρος με την Ελληνική Εθνική Συμμετοχή στη 13η Διεθνή Έκθεση Prague Quadrennial of Performance Design and Space 2015, καθώς και η Εθνική Συμμετοχή της Ολλανδίας (πρώτο βραβείο Curatorial Concept PQ 2015). Επίσης, προβάλλονται νέα projects που έχουν δημιουργηθεί κατά την περίοδο 2015–2016 ενώ παράλληλα, κατά τη διάρκεια της έκθεσης, θα πραγματοποιηθούν σειρά από live performances, διαλέξεις, masterclasses, workshops, προβολές και round tables.

I was commissioned to design the visual identity and graphic elements of the exhibition, which included 3 indoor posters, an outdoor banner, A3 sized posters that were hung on the streets of Athens, the exhibition flyer, the web banner and the listing for LiFo Magazine.

Based on the exhibition's theme and the way walls are depicted on blueprints, I designed a set of brackets, in which the word 'out' was included, to question the word's connotation and meaning. 'Topias' has no clear borders to symbolize the infinity of the world around us.
