SOPA DA PEDRA X BASQUIAT

An illustration exercise report, aiming to generate a debate between two opposite inspirational sources arises in this booklet entitled ‘Sopa da Pedra X Basquiat’. The prime fundamentals of the popular folklore story ‘stone soup’ coalesces with the core qualities of the artwork of the American artist Jean-Michel Basquiat. This booklet includes an investigation on both subjects, an inicial development of the illustration strategy, as well as some prototype models of what could be the final illustration piece.

When one introduces a notion of popular folk culture versus one based on the erudite culture, it’s almost as if someone would decide to work with antonyms and aim for a match between the two. Moreover, an idea of building something as a result of forces apparently disconnected seemed to be intriguing at the same time it was showing every sign of turmoil. Throughout the piece and in the making of all illustration drawings, there was always an intention to faithfully establish a marriage between both sides. Booklet printed on thin 70 gsm recycled paper, cover on 150 gsm snow ivory paper, 120x180 mm size.
